Poetry Performed Episode 040 - The Smell of Rain by Z. Pierce Weston

This week, we have another living writer, featuring Z. Pierce Weston’s “The Smell of Rain”

The Smell of Rain by Z. Pierce Weston
A hint of rain comes through the car’s vent

That smell
Like books and coffee

Something so calming
Stirring deep inside
A feeling undefined

But it’s like an otherworldly peace

Something humans have forgotten
An ultimate connection

Isn’t it weird
How we feel so much for natural scents
Or what was living or life giving

Do we desire so much
What is tangible
To touch

Yet our souls constantly search
For what isn’t considered much
Unseeable
Yet swelling deep

A depth we didn’t know we possessed
Like our souls mirror galaxies

Infinite but containable
Measured without distance
And still we define by our bodies
That which does not crave
Such smells or connections
An ultimate, incredible calm

As if the universe knew
I needed some
